Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh MuseumLab is the first Museum to receive isUD certification.
The IDEA Center is thrilled to award innovative solutions for Universal Design (isUD™) certification to MuseumLab. Part of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, MuseumLab is a new museum where kids 10+ can work with makers to create new products, technology, and art. In addition to its commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all, the design team was also focused on preserving the charm of the former Carnegie Free library building and revitalizing much of the original 1890 structure.
Our own Danise Levine consulted with the MuseumLab team throughout the design and restoration process. Her involvement on the project led her to say the following:
“Throughout my 23-year architectural career, I’ve been involved in many projects. Some were simple and quick, while others were larger in scale and more complex. Although they are all memorable for different reasons, a few projects are more notable and invoke a special level of fulfillment and source of pride. The new MuseumLab at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is one of those projects.”
